Welcome to Kodomoen Childcare Centre!

At Kodomoen Childcare Centre, we are more than just a place for children to learn; we are a vibrant community where Japanese-speaking and Christian values come together in the heart of Toronto. Our centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing young minds through a unique blend of educational approaches.

Learning Through Play

We believe that children learn best through play! That’s why our curriculum combines the rich traditions of Japanese education with the Ontario Ministry of Education's guiding principles, including How Does Learning Happen (HDLH) and Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT). Our play-based curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and creativity in every child.

Daily Activities

Every day at Kodomoen is filled with fun and learning! Our group experiences include:

• Singing Japanese songs
• Storytime with engaging books
• Calendar and weather discussions

We also celebrate the beauty of both Japanese and Canadian cultures through exciting crafts, games, and activities. Our children enjoy music and movement sessions, including traditional Japanese exercises that keep them active and engaged.

Physical Activity

Physical movement is a must! We ensure that every child has time to run, jump, and play, whether in our outdoor space or the gymnasium inside our building. Our activities focus on developing important gross motor skills like throwing, kicking, and balancing. We love taking strolls around our neighborhood and visiting the lovely Margaret Fairly Parkette.

Celebrating Culture

Throughout the year, we celebrate various cultural events, including:

• Hinamatsuri (Girls Day)
• Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day or Boys Day)
• Natsumatsuri (Summer Festival)

These celebrations are filled with joy, crafts, and special activities that help children appreciate the richness of different cultures.

Special Classes and Adventures

We invite experts to our centre for special classes, such as hip hop dance and kamishibai (traditional storytelling), making learning even more exciting! Each summer, our older children embark on an adventure to the Toronto Island, where they explore, enjoy rides, and have a delightful picnic.

Community Connections

We love exploring our community! Our walks and visits to local establishments help children connect with the world around them. Plus, we host an annual Christmas concert where our children shine as the stars! With singing, dancing, and a festive Christmas lunch, it’s a celebration to remember.
