Overview

Lisbon Pre-Kindergarten (LPK) is a cooperative preschool that has been nurturing young children since 1972. Located in the northwestern corner of the county, it serves families from Woodbine and Mount Airy. LPK focuses on the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of children aged 3 to 4 years old. The school provides a warm and engaging environment that encourages creativity and curiosity.

Classroom Features

• Bright and Open Classroom: Designed for exploration and learning.
• Cubby Area: For students to store their LPK tote bags.
• Circle Time Rug: Used for group activities.
• Library Nook: Cozy area with child-sized lounging chairs.
• Activity Tables: For various activities including projects and healthy snacks.
• Bathrooms: Conveniently located for students.
• Kitchen: Available for snack preparation.
• Open Play Space: Equipped with puzzles, Legos, and toys.
• Seasonal Play Space: Changes themes regularly (e.g., grocery store, pizzeria, Santa’s Workshop).

Daily Schedule

• Morning Classes: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
• Afternoon Classes: 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Typical Class Schedule:

1. Arrival/Gathering: 30-40 minutes
2. 1st Circle Time: 20 minutes
3. 1st Center Time: 20 minutes
4. Snack: 15 minutes
5. Library: 15 minutes
6. 2nd Circle Time: 15 minutes
7. 2nd Center Time: 20 minutes
8. Story Time: 10 minutes
9. Outdoor Play: 10-15 minutes (weather permitting)

Curriculum

LPK's curriculum is based on the seven "Learning Domains" defined by the Maryland State Department of Education:

1. Social Foundations: Personal and social development.
2. Language and Literacy: Daily integration of language and reading.
3. Science: Hands-on discovery and exploration.
4. Social Studies: Understanding community and citizenship.
5. Mathematics: Basic concepts through everyday activities.
6. Physical Well-Being and Motor Development: Opportunities for physical activity.
7. The Arts: Music, theater, dance, and visual arts.

Activities

• Circle Time: Sharing, listening, and singing.
• Art and Crafts: Seasonal projects and imaginative play.
• Healthy Snacks: Shared with friends.
• Community Events: Monthly helper days, family fun nights, and field trips.

Classes Offered

• 3-Year-Old Class: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
• 4-Year-Old Morning Class: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
• 4-Year-Old Afternoon Class: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Tuition for 2025-2026 School Year

• 3-Year-Old Class: Co-op: $255/month, Non Co-op: $290/month
• 4-Year-Old Morning Class: Co-op: $320/month, Non Co-op: $365/month
• 4-Year-Old Afternoon Class: Co-op: $320/month, Non Co-op: $365/month

Parent Involvement

LPK operates as a co-op preschool, encouraging parents to be actively involved in their child's education. Responsibilities include:

• Helping in the classroom monthly.
• Providing nutritious snacks.
• Participating in fundraising activities.
• Attending General Membership meetings.

Community Events

• Family Fun Nights: Ice Cream Social, Fall Bash, Family Game Night, Spring Fling.
• Thanksgiving Feast: For families of 4-year-olds.
• Graduation Ceremony: Celebrating the 4-year-olds at the end of the school year.
