Welcome to John Muir Elementary School!

Nestled in a vibrant community, John Muir Elementary School has been a cherished place for learning since its doors first opened in the Fall of 1971. Originally built to serve students from kindergarten through sixth grade, our school started with 312 eager learners. Over the years, we've grown a bit, and now we proudly welcome around 350 students each year, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for everyone.

Throughout our 45-year journey, John Muir Elementary has been recognized on a national level, earning accolades that highlight our commitment to excellence. We were honored to be named one of the outstanding schools in the United States in 1990 and again in 2010! Our dedication to helping students grow in reading and math has also been acknowledged with the Washington Achievement Award for three consecutive years: 2013, 2014, and 2015.

In Spring 2024, we reached another exciting milestone by becoming a Visible Learning+ Associate School, showcasing our focus on effective teaching and learning practices.

As we look forward to the 2024-2025 school year, we will celebrate our 13th year in our beautiful building, named after the famous naturalist John Muir, who played a significant role in the National Park movement. Our school features four unique learning spaces, each named to honor the breathtaking beauty of nature: Yosemite, the Sierras, Redwoods, and Mt. Rainier.

We take pride in our school colors of red, white, and blue, and our spirited mascot, Mountie the Mountain Lion, embodies the courage and strength we encourage in our students every day.
