At Hearst Elementary School, we are proud to be a part of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) family. Our mission is to provide a fun and challenging learning experience for children from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade. A Diverse Community

Our school is a vibrant place where students and teachers come from many different backgrounds. This multicultural environment enriches our learning and helps everyone feel included. With small class sizes, we ensure that every child gets the attention they deserve.

Learning with Joy

At Hearst, we use the Responsive Classroom approach. This means we create classrooms that are not only safe and joyful but also challenging. Our goal is to help teachers be effective and students to achieve their best while enjoying their time at school.

Before and After Care

We understand that families have busy schedules, so we offer before- and after-care programs. For those interested in language learning, we also provide options for Spanish language immersion.

Support for All Students

We are dedicated to supporting every child, including those with special needs. Our CES program for students with autism features smaller class sizes and personalized learning experiences. Students in this program enjoy integrated learning with their peers in general education. We also offer on-site services like occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and psychology to help every child thrive.

At Hearst Elementary, we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for all. We take bullying seriously and have a Bullying Prevention Policy in place. We encourage open communication between students, families, and our school community to ensure everyone feels heard and valued.
