Lafayette Elementary School is a vibrant and welcoming place for children, nestled in the heart of Chevy Chase, D.C. With over 900 bright and curious students from pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, our school is one of the largest in the District of Columbia.

A Rich History

Established in 1928, Lafayette Elementary School was built to serve the growing families in the new residential neighborhoods along the Connecticut Avenue corridor. The current school building opened its doors in 1931, and in 1978, we expanded to include an early childhood wing, transforming the original space into an open and inviting layout.

In 2015-2016, we underwent a major modernization, increasing our school’s area to 120,000 square feet to comfortably accommodate more than 800 students.

Outdoor Adventures

Our school is not just about classrooms! We share our beautiful grounds with Lafayette Pointer Park and the Lafayette Recreation Center, providing plenty of space for children to play, explore, and enjoy the great outdoors.
