Welcome to Shepherd Elementary School!

At Shepherd Elementary, we are proud to be a vibrant public school nestled in the heart of the District of Columbia Public School System. We warmly welcome students from PreK3 to Grade 5, creating a nurturing environment where young minds can flourish.

Since 2011, we have embraced the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme. This means that our students engage in a unique learning journey that encourages them to think critically and explore the world around them. Becoming an IB World School was no small feat; it took years of hard work and dedication to achieve this prestigious designation.

The IB program is all about inquiry-based learning. This approach helps our students develop essential skills for the future, focusing on:

• Socio-emotional development
• Understanding their role in a rapidly changing global world

Starting from PK 3, our students dive into the exciting world of languages! They have the opportunity to take up to three language classes per week in either French or Spanish. This not only enriches their learning experience but also prepares them to communicate in our diverse world.
