History

• Founded in 1836 by Monsenhor António Fernandes Duarte to support underprivileged girls in the parish.
• Initially operated in church facilities, supervising children in the afternoon for schoolwork.
• Officially recognized as a primary school in 1946, continuing under the founder's guidance.
• The official school closed in 1952, but morning and afternoon shifts for schoolwork and activities continued.
• Renamed Patronato Cristo Rei in 1954, focusing on education and Catholic formation.
• Moved to new facilities in 1964, where it remains today.
• In 1998, entered a cooperation agreement with Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the Regional Directorate of Education of Lisbon to expand preschool education.
• In 2000, the official school moved, and Patronato Cristo Rei continued with daycare and kindergarten.
• The daycare was closed in 2006 due to low attendance, leaving only the kindergarten.
• In 2011, renovations led to the opening of a nursery for children aged 1-2 years.
• Currently open to the community, emphasizing the relationship between school and family.
